Many reconstructive procedures are covered by insurance, and although there are exceptions, most cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance. We accept most insurance plans available in the Puget Sound area and many national plans as well, so it is very likely that the coverage you currently have is welcomed at Downey Plastic Surgery.

A date for your operation can be scheduled only after we have received preauthorization from your insurance company. Please note that this process may take several weeks to complete so we will advise you when we receive notification of approval from your insurance company.

Understanding the terms and limits of your insurance benefits is very important. Please check the insurance plans for which Dr. Downey is a contracted physician. If your plan is not listed, please contact your insurance carrier directly to determine what type of coverage, if any, is available. Although we participate with the insurance companies/networks listed below, we may not be covered under all specific plans or products that they offer. Furthermore, even if Dr. Downey is a contracted physician, your insurance may list very specific diagnoses or operations which it does not cover, and that may prevent you from billing a visit to Downey Plastic Surgery. You may, however, choose to schedule a consult or an operation outside your insurance plan (“out of network” or “self pay”) for which you agree to accept full financial responsibility.

In most cases, after treatment we will send your bill directly to the insurance company. We recommend that you contact the insurance company directly if you have not received an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company within 60 days of receiving a copy of your hospital bill, as the EOB will identify covered services, insurance payment, and any remaining patient responsibility.

CosmetAssure – For elective cosmetic procedures that are not covered by insurance, we provide a program to cover you in the rare event of medical complications during and after your surgery which require treatment.
